Slippery Elm, scientifically known as Ulmus Fulva, has been used extensively in North America for treating various health problems. It is found in the Appalachian Mountains in Central and Eastern US and Eastern Canada. Slippery Elm consists of Mucilage, composed of galactose, 3-methyl galactose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid residues. Its also rich in various nutrients, such as beta-sitosterol, campestrol, tannin, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese,phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, beta-carotene and vitamins B1, B2, B3 and C.
The antioxidants levels of Slippery Elm reduce the appearance of wrinkles, eliminate free radicals from the upper skin layers, and even heal age spots. This results in promoting youthful looking skin.
