Silk amino acid (SAAs) also known as Sericin is a natural water-soluble glycoprotein which is extracted from raw silk. It is used as an additive in skin and hair care products due to the high levels of Serine in it, which make it an excellent moisture preservation agent As a water-based additive it is used to provide a protective barrier and silky feel to lotions, creams and hair care products. Silk amino acids are produced by hydrolyzing (or breaking apart) silk proteins into smaller peptide chains, typically 18 to 19 amino acids in length. Silk amino acids have a lower molecular weight than silk protein powders and are moisturizing to skin and hair. PROPERTIES Silk Amino acid is made up of two primary proteins; a fibrous protein known as Fibroin and a sticky protein known as Sericin, with the two comprising 70–80% and 20–30% of silk, respectively. Sericin has a high hydroxy amino acid content which is important for the water-binding capacity which regulates the skins moisture content. It also has a unique carbohydrate moiety and a unique repetitive amino acid sequence which give it a high affinity for bonding to adhering proteins resulting in a tightening, anti-wrinkle effect. In addition, because of its high molecular weight, it leaves a substantive semi-occlusive film that persists even after washing, and can increase the skins permeability. COMPOSITION Predominant composition of silk Peptides are L-Alanine(34.36%)Alanine is another amino acid which your body is also able to manufacture through diet. Manufacturers have also discovered the use of it in skin care purposes like as skin conditioning agent and masking ingredient, because it is able to combine with epidermal cells to fill up creases, giving a smooth surface to you skin appearance. Glycine (27.23%)-Glycine is one of the simplest formed of amino acid able to be manufactured in your body from the diet. This amino acid produces a protein that has high collagen concentration. Most of us have heard a great lot about collagen and the wonders it has to the skin. Therefore, glycine can help to repair damaged tissue and speed up healing process much better than common collagen that we have heard from. L-Serine (9.58%) L-Valine (3.49%) L-Threonine (2.00%) BENEFITS Fibroin is undoubtedly an excellent water binding and absorbing protein which is non-toxic and a bio-compatible natural protein. Therefore, skin care products that are fortified with fibroin help to: Calm inflamed skins – Fibroin helps to reduce skin inflammation. This problem is eliminated by increasing circulation and cell metabolism. Reducing inflammation can help to promote an even skin tone and keep acne & wrinkles at bay. Tighten skin – It may help to reverse the effects of aging by improving skin health and it rejuvenates its appearance. Reduce wrinkle – Fibroin can help to plump up the skin, making it more youthful like Botox. The effect might be take longer, but its a much safer choice than most other agents in this category. Treat scars – It is able to increase blood flow to scar tissue and blend into the development of new skin, which is important because scar tissue has a different structure comparing to a healthy one. It is best used with Beta glucan to optimize results. Alleviate sun damage – This is dangerous and I seriously urged people who love to sunbathe to take great care of their skin. Sun damaged skin has a bad appearance, drying out and damaged cells. It also makes skin looks tough and wrinkly. However, products with antioxidant can help to stimulate blood flow and encourage the growth of new cells This silk forms a natural layer over the skin, keeping moisture locked in and harsh conditions out, leaving skin protected and well-nourished. It also works well in hair care formulations, helping to make hair more smooth and nourished as well as giving it a lasting shine. Liquid Silk contains silk amino acids which give the skin a very soft and velvety feel when used in a cosmetic product, they also have excellent water-binding properties. Silk amino acids (silk proteins) also have a certain amount of antioxidant benefits. Overall liquid silk is a fantastic cosmetic ingredient for skin care as well as hair care. HIGH POINTS In recent years, Chinese and Japanese research studies have revealed a number of things. Silk proteins have been shown to increase growth and survival of human dermal fibroblasts (collagen producing cells) by up to 250 percent compared to control groups. Similarly, studies have shown measurable increases in epidermal thickness with the application of silk extract. In America, human wound healing studies have found that silk biomaterial wound dressings increase wound healing rates, re-epithelialization (wound coverage by epidermis), dermis growth and collagen synthesis.
