Lactic Acid is the natural form of this multifunctional cosmetic ingredient, produced through the fermentation of corn.  The human body produces, and utilizes, this gentle acid to maintain it’s optimal pH balance (Acid Mantle) used in the defense fungus and bacteria. Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates cells on the surface of skin by breaking down the material that holds skin cells together

Lactic Acid, when compared to Glycolic or Citric Acids, shows greatly reduced irritation while offering pronounced efficacy in exfoliating and skin rejuvenating formulations. When used at concentrations of 2% or less, Lactic Acid will perform;  pH regulating, antimicrobial, and moisture binding functions. When used at concentrations higher than 2%, Lactic Acid will perform the same functions as well as offering:

  • enhanced skin lightening effects
  • improved collagen and elastin synthesis.
  • accelerated exfoliation and cell renewal.
  • removal of the corneocyte or “dead/horny” layer of skin to reveal a fresher, more youthful appearance.

NOTE: Please be aware that when you use AHA’s on the skin you are exposing new skin, which is much more susceptible to UV damage. Always follow with an adequate sunscreen.  Important: Do not use Lactic acid pure and undiluted; the solution is highly acidic and can lead to skin irritation and skin burns

Am really disappointed. i recently ordered some lactic acid from you like i have in the past. This time am 100% sure it was not, litmus paper was blue did change color, left it on my skin for 12hrs undiluted nth not a sting or a burn…. i know lots of people that brought and bragged about tidemark.. i referred people to this site overtime but this! its not acceptable

    • This is a general note: this issue has been resolved; the item purchased was lactic acid as stated. The said item was returned and we verified this with both a pH meter and litmus paper with results that conformed to 80% lactic acid. Perhaps the blue litmus paper was faulty? We sincerely appreciate your recommendations, they haven’t been wrong.

A further note about acids: The potency of an acid (Lactic acid, glycolic, L’Ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid, etc) should not be judged based on your skins subsequent reaction to it; the skin does get used to strengths and when that happens, a higher percentage is required to make your skin respond to it. Also, if you skin is used to an acid it will hardly sting or burn yet you may wake up the next day with an inflamed skin. To continue enjoying the benefits of acids, take a break every now and then so that your skin doesn’t get used to it (This is not to say that you should expect a stinging or burning sensation). You can also experiment with our fruit enzymes – they are effective exfoliators without the drawbacks of acids.
